Day Signal, Double Cone

Description

Under the Collision Regulations (COLREG), vessels show their status in daylight with black shapes hoisted on the mast. This shape of two cones with their apexes together marks a vessel engaged in fishing, by trawling or other methods, and asks other vessels to keep a safe distance. The black netting gives a crisp silhouette at a distance and lets the wind pass through, so it puts less strain on the rigging. It is light, quick to hoist and lower, and stows in little space. Together with the ball, cone, double cone, cylinder and diamond it makes up a complete set of day signals.
